About Equator Village
Located in Addu Atoll’s Gan Island, your holiday in Equator village resort comes in a package of unique beauty and intriguing history.
From Gan Island, which was a RAF base until 1976, a scenic ride of swaying palms, coastal roads lined with cafes and smiling locals takes you the length of 4 islands (Gan, Feydhoo, Maradhoo and Hithadhoo) joined together by causeways. Hop on a ferry and three more islands can be reached. With Bicycles to leisurely cycle through the scenery, excursions to take you island hopping and fishing, and comfy airconditioned vans with experienced drivers to cruise around the islands, you explore at your own pace.
Historical sights includes a War Memorial built by the British on Gan Island, and a building in Maradhoo used as an Armory by the British forces during the war. The biggest wreck in Maldives - The British Loyalty lies in a seabed inside the Atoll. Addu Atoll also boasts of exceptionally pristine coral reefs, as this is the only area in Maldives that wasn’t affected by the 1998 global coral bleaching.
With lovely mangroves balancing the eco system, and exotic birds like white terns locally known as ‘dhondheeni’ found only in selective tropical lands such as this dotting the fresh blue skies, Addu is without doubt exquisitely special. This is the last inhabited atoll for miles, and standing on the edge of the lush lands looking onto the vast Indian ocean where fishermen brave the seas one can’t help but feel the swell of adventure rise in their hearts.
