  • 30 March 2023

In the first three months of 2023, more than 500,000 tourists visited The Maldives. The Maldives Ministry of Tourism's most recent figures show that as of March 27, there were 505,071 visitors overall, a 21.5 percent increase over the same period in 2022.

Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, the minister of tourism, congratulated the stakeholders and service providers in the tourism industry for their support and contributions in helping the industry attain this milestone. The present pace of visitor arrivals, he continued, was on track to bring in the anticipated 1.8 million visitors annually in 2023. With over 60,000 visitors thus far, Russia has maintained its top position in the tourist industry, while India is in second place with over 50,000 visitors.

This year, there has been both a monthly increase and an annual increase in the number of tourists visiting the Maldives. The Chinese tourist industry has resumed, which has significantly increased the number of visitors. After a three-year absence, China, which had previously been the leading source market for the Maldives, started to receive travellers again.
