MALDIVES BREAKS SINGLE-DAY TOURIST ARRIVAL RECORD
Ibrahim Faisal, the Maldives Tourism Minister, has declared a new record for the most tourist arrivals in one single day. In a recent tweet, Minister Faisal said that 10,213 tourists will arrive in the Maldives today. This will break the previous record, established just last week when over 8,900 people visited the tropical island nation. The increase in tourist arrivals is linked to an increase in visitors from China, which was the largest market before to the pandemic, as well as Western Europe, which has historically been an important source of tourism for the Maldives. According to the Ministry of Tourism's most recent figures, China is the Maldives' leading source of tourists, followed by Italy in second and Russia in third.
