The Velana International Airport's (VIA) Noovilu Seaplane Terminal won the Engineering News Record's 2022 Global Best Projects Award (ENR). The Noovilu Seaplane Terminal was recognized for excellence in the airport/port category. The largest seaplane station in the world, Noovilu Seaplane Terminal has a floating dock area that can hold more than 55 seaplanes. A four-story, 28,000 square meter terminal houses offices and operational areas in addition to roomy lounges and boarding gates. On October 6, 2022, MACL commenced business activities at the new site.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the company that operates VIA, was presented with the honor during the 10th annual ENR Global Projects Awards, which were conducted digitally on December 12, 2022. There were 34 projects from 18 different nations included in the 18 winning categories this year.

The team overcame the COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions, the labour shortage, supply-chain disruptions, and the team's effort to establish systems during development to minimize effects on the surrounding coral reefs and marine environment and limit damage to marine biodiversity in order to complete the facility on schedule. This effort is recognized by ENR Global Best Projects.
