OVER 30 NEW RESORTS SET TO OPEN IN THE MALDIVES BY 2025

  • 24 November 2023

With the construction of new resorts, the Maldives is expected to see a considerable increase in tourists between 2023 and 2025. 10,735 beds and 35 projects in total are listed as pending during this time frame in the report. Seven projects totalling 2,588 beds are anticipated to begin construction in 2023 alone, increasing the archipelago's capacity for lodging. The trend continues into the next year, 2024, with a notable uptick in activity—23 projects are planned that will add a significant 7,403 beds.

Furthermore, it is anticipated that five projects will be started in 2025, adding 744 more beds. Together, these 35 projects will add an astounding 10,735 beds to the mix as part of this massive development wave. This shows how committed the Maldives is to satisfying the region's expanding tourism demand and providing guests with an enhanced lodging experience.

This development demonstrates the strong growth of the Maldives' hotel industry, especially in well-known atolls like Kaafu and newly discovered locations like Lhaviyani. An intentional attempt to diversify the Maldives' tourism landscape is seen in the addition of atolls that were previously less visited, such as Lhaviyani, which gives visitors the possibility to discover undiscovered areas of the archipelago.

This extension guarantees a more balanced distribution of tourism advantages throughout the archipelago in addition to bolstering the economies of these communities. With 175 resorts now in operating and 63,085 guest beds available, the Maldives has already welcomed almost 1.6 million visitors in 2023.
